It was a notable first for Waukegan High School.
Despite a truancy rate that last year was seven fold the state's, test scores that lagged the average across Illinois in every core subject and its seventh principal in six years, the school saw three seniors accepted to Stanford University.
Officials said it was the first time in recent history so many Waukegan seniors won early admission to the top-ranked school in a year. No other high school in the state did better, said Stanford admissions director Shawn Abbott, who called the group " |
